Errant Phoenix driver kills 1, injures others

When it comes to driving, it only takes the blink of an eye for a tragic error to occur. A split-second of inattentiveness can cause a car to swerve into oncoming traffic, cross into a bicycle lane, or cause a driver to yield at a crosswalk. These wrecks can leave victims seriously injured with broken bones, torn ligaments, and brain and spinal cord damage. Permanent disability and disfigurement are very real possibilities. So, too, is death.

To see just how dangerous an errant driver can be, just look at a recent accident in Phoenix near 51st Avenue and McDowell Road. There, a motorist apparently lost control of his or her vehicle, causing it sideswipe one vehicle before entering an intersection and being struck by another car. That impact caused damage to another vehicle. Once the dust settled, four people were seriously injured. One of the victims, a 24-year-old woman, died after being rushed to the hospital. Police are still investigating the matter, but they have not ruled out intoxication as a cause of the accident.

Victims and their families can face significant damages following these car accidents. Those who are fortunate enough to survive can experience extensive physical and emotional pain, and their medical bills can wind up being overwhelming. Those who lose a loved one in a car crash can face similar losses in addition to their loved one’s lost wages and funeral costs.

Although compensation may be recoverable following one of these wrecks, it is usually dependent upon a victim’s ability to prove that someone else’s negligence caused the accident and thus their injuries. In a case like the one discussed above, a victim will need to ensure that he or she has all of the facts before moving forward. A competent attorney may be able to assist in the information gathering process as well as settlement negotiations and litigation.
