Spring driving comes with some unique challenges

Many people look forward to the spring months because the weather is nicer and doing things outdoors is much more pleasant. What many people don’t realize is that there are some unique challenges that come with driving in the springtime.

All drivers should try to understand these challenges so that they can avoid them. Here are some of the most notable for you to remember as you drive:

Spring showers

The spring showers that are necessary for animals and plants to survive and thrive leads to water on the roadway. Leaves that are on the road can become slick when they are damp. This is a slip hazard. There is also the risk that comes with rain hitting oil and other fluids on the road. These can become slick and dangerous for cars driving until they are very diluted or washed off the road completely.

Increase in wildlife

One of Arizona’s neighboring states issues a travel advisory for motorists in April due to the increase in wildlife movement that happens around this time. The spring months mean that wildlife, such as deer, that have been fairly inactive during the winter will come out to find food and breed. This can pose a problem for motorists because these animals will often dart into the roadway. Swerving to avoid them can lead to an accident, but hitting a large animal can also lead to serious problems.

Uptick in allergens

You might not think of an uptick in allergens as a driving hazard. But, what do you do when you are having an allergy attack? Most people will turn to allergy medications to reduce the symptoms. Some antihistamines can cause drowsiness or dizziness, which can impair a person’s ability to drive safely. It is possible for a person to face impaired driving charges if under the influence of allergy medications or any other medicines, so make sure you figure out how they will impact you before you drive.

More motorcyclists, pedestrians and bicyclists

The nice weather means that pedestrians, bicyclists and motorcyclists might all be out on the roads. Drivers should pay close attention for them because accidents involving these individuals can be very serious.

Even if you are cautious and remember these points this spring, other drivers might not do the same. Remember that you do have rights if you are struck by another driver and suffer an injury.
