Accidents remain concern after city halts bike lane proposal

Bicycle accidents are common throughout the Phoenix metro area. Although sometimes bicyclists are at fault in these wrecks, more often than not motorists are to blame. Making matters worse is the fact that many of these bicycle accidents result in serious injuries given the lack of protection afforded to bicyclists and the rate of speed at which these wrecks often occur. Although some may place their comfort in the work of local and state agencies, as well as governments, that are tasked with ensuring bicyclists' safety, they often fall short of expectations.

Drug use may have contributed to fatal Mesa bicycle accident

It's no secret that the opioid epidemic that has swept across our country is still in effect. While drug use of any kind can have a serious impact on an individual and his or her family, the risks associated with drug use have rippling effects that can have far-reaching ramifications. One way this occurs is when individuals who are under the influence of drugs get behind the wheel of a motor vehicle.

Bicycle accidents are common and have many causes

Recognizing that many people in Phoenix wish to travel by bicycle, the city and surrounding areas have attempted to accommodate bicyclists by enforcing road sharing laws and implementing bike lanes. Yet, even these efforts aren't enough to ensure bicyclists' safety. This is because errant drivers abound. In the blink of an eye these negligent motorists can cause devastating bicycle accidents that leave victims struggling to recover.

Bicycle accident victims turn to us for legal help

On any given day, you can see countless bicyclists working their way in, out, around, and through the Phoenix-area. These bicyclists often ride on the road, and it is expected that motorists will share the streets with them. Unfortunately, though, many motorists fail to recognize bicyclists, give them enough room on the road, and yield to them when appropriate. A few weeks ago on the blog we discussed some unsettling trends related to bicycle accidents, but the truth of the matter is that everyone who rides, even those who are the most careful, are susceptible to being seriously injured or killed in a bicycle accident.

Things to consider prior to bicycle accident-related legal action

Phoenix is a city where outdoor activities make up a significant part of individuals' lives. Amongst these activities is bicycling. Some ride their bikes for pleasure or as a way to relax, while others utilize their bikes for transportation to and from work or school. Regardless of why a person rides a bicycle, they are often at risk of being seriously injured in an accident caused by a negligent driver. Those who are injured in one of these wrecks can suffer extensive damages. In addition to physical pain and suffering, as well as disfigurement in some cases, a victim can be hit hard with medical expenses and lost wages when the crash causes hospitalization, the need for rehabilitation and missed work.

Phoenix bicycle accident leaves one injured

Riding a bicycle should be a relaxing, cost-efficient way to spend one's leisure time or even as a primary mode of transportation, especially in a bustling city like Phoenix. Unfortunately, though, these bicyclists' safety is left in the hands of motorists who share the road with them. Although many of these motorists operate their vehicles in a safe fashion most of the time, it only takes a split second for an error to become a tragedy.

How common are bicycle accidents?

Riding a bicycle can be a great way to get around town. Whether one is looking to get to and from work, or simply enjoy the city, many Phoenix residents ride their bikes on a regular basis. As enjoyable as this activity can be, though, it can also put an unsuspecting individual at risk of harm, particularly when motorists who are operating their vehicles near bicyclists act negligently. Far too often in these instances, bicycle accidents occur. The aftermath can be quite serious, leaving victims with serious or fatal injuries.

Man killed in car-bicycle accident

Phoenix is a city known for its nice weather, allowing visitors and residents alike to partake in outdoor activities year-round. This includes bicycling, walking and playing outdoor sports like golf. Yet, Phoenix is also a bustling metropolis where motor vehicles can be seen zipping through the city's streets at all times of day and night. The juxtaposition of these two facts can make for a dangerous situation, especially when a negligent driver is thrown into the mix.

Fatal Arizona bicycle accident claims life of bicyclist

Legal options help protect family members whose loved ones have been wrongfully taken from them. A fatal car versus bicycle accident in Arizona recently claimed the life of a bicycle rider. In an Arizona community a few hours northwest of Phoenix, a bicyclist was recently struck and killed by a motor vehicle traveling in the same direction as the bicycle. The 34-year old bicyclist died from the injuries he sustained in the bicycle accident. The 42-year old woman driving the car that struck the bicyclist was taken to a local medical center for a blood draw. The woman was subsequently arrested and charged with second degree murder and DUI.
