- Disobeying traffic laws: Traffic laws are in place to ensure that there is order on the roads. Never run red lights or stop signs. Always signal properly if you are turning or changing lanes. Pay attention to who has the right-of-way.
- Impairment: Being impaired from alcohol or drugs can be a deadly decision. Using other methods to get home is a better idea. Drivers are sometimes shocked to learn that even over-the-counter medications can lead to impairment that can make driving dangerous.
- Tailgating: Driving too close behind another vehicle can lead to crashes because of the risk of a rear-end accident if the leading car stops suddenly. Leave plenty of distance to allow you to stop without slamming into someone.
- Road construction: Construction sites can make it difficult for drivers to remain safe. The lane changes and shifts can be hard to navigate, not to mention the challenges of trying not to hit the workers doing the project.
- Wild animals: Wild animals don’t understand roads and vehicles. Drivers need to watch for wildlife: The vehicle might hit a larger animal and cause a problem. Alternatively, the driver might swerve to avoid the animal and hit another vehicle.
